Leukaemia help

Hi I'm looking for advice please

ive been suffering with extreme tiredness, confusion/forgetfulness, lightheadedness & unintentional weight loss for nearly a year.. over the last 2 weeks I've had a lot of bruising and petechia on my thighs, I'm in severe agony with both legs, knees, ankles and feet aches, shocking pains, skin sore to touch, burning sometimes hot to touch almost like sunburn but feet constantly freezing.. (could be related to my spinal issue though?) so DR has done blood tests.. receptionist has just called saying blood tests seem fine but my folate levels are low so doctor will ring me this week but I can't help worrying.. has any one experienced this please? Is folate related to leukaemia ?

  • Hi Broke and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about the symptoms you've been experiencing. It sounds like you've had a lot to contend with but I'm glad you've consulted your doctor about this.

You can find out more about folate just here but if you'd like to have a quick chat with our nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope the doctor is able to put your mind at ease when your speak with them.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

I have leukaemia, so I can only tell you my experience everyone is different....there are different types, I have myeloid. I didn’t have any crazy symptoms that made me sit up and think I had anything but I started with unusual bowel issues which is what took me to the doctors, after blood tests I had high ish platelets and white blood cells and that was it. They kept telling me I had ibs! It went on a few months and in the end I was very assertive about seeing a haematologist and after a few rounds of special blood tests at the hospital they diagnosed it pretty quickly. I think sometimes you can end up going around in circles at the GPs.

Looking back I did have a few tired spells (not many but they felt strange) they didn’t feel like a traditional tired feeling it was more like someone had completely unplugged me, like a total crash out of no where, ie one minute fine next minute your completely exhausted and can barely get off the sofa. I didn’t feel tired all the time.

Theres a lot of good support sites on Facebook for leukaemia, there are a myriad of symptoms I have read people have had before being diagnosed with what I have, all which could be related to anything, if you can see a Heamatologist if it carries on they are the experts.

Wishing you all the best x
