Smear test results - HPV/abnormal cells

***LONG POST***

Sorry in advance...

I need reassuring or possibly speaking to someone who has been through something similar.

I'll try and keep it short.

In March 2020 I received a abnormal smear test result and was told to retest in 3 months. Obviously due to Covid no tests was being done. I finally got one booked in January, unfortunately there was a mix up and the test couldn't be done. Had another done in February and they lost the test.

I had to have another one done last month. I got the results.

It says:

High-risk HPV. Your results showed this was found.

Checked cells in cervix and changes were seen.

I'm waiting to hear back for a date for a colposcopy. Has anyone had any experience or similar results to this?

I've had changes in my period since November 2020, also have been feeling anemic since then too... I do have Pernicious Anemia (get B12 every 8 weeks). I mentioned my change in periods to my Dr beforehand and they weren't concerned. I think I'm more concerned as we lost our grandmother in September 2020 to cancer.

  • Hi

im so glad to hear I'm not the only one who receive the same results! I'm worried sick aswell and can't help but turn to google.

I went for smear due to unusual bleeding but got told not to worry as I have had the hpv vaccine and I'm only 25.
recieved the letter ok Saturday and was written the same as yours and when looking online some are told borderline changed but mine just says changes were found.

I dread the wait for the colposcopy and if a biopsy is needed the wait for the lab results of that.
I wasn't sure how common it was either to get sent for a colposcopy and if you will be told there and then any bad news

im sure someone on here will hopefully get back to you and help us with understanding a little bit more
