Worried and lost

Hi ladies, I'm 35 mum of 2  and as the title says I'm worried and lost.

For the past 6 months or more I've been having some concerning symptoms and I don't know what to do.

It started with spotting between my period and pain during and after sex. Then came the worst symptom, the odour. I literally smell like rotten flesh down there regardless of personal hygiene or clothing. I went to my gp and she did swabs for infections, bacterial and std. All came back clear. I'm now having more prolonged spotting with pelvic and lower back pain, accompanied by radiating leg pain and the smell has gotten worse. My gp has reffered me to the gynecology department but I got a letter from them saying there is a 15 month wait for appointments. My pap smear is due this July. I'm at a loss of what to do next as I can't keep going like this and can't wait 15 months either.

I'm in Ireland if that makes a difference.

  • Hi Daisy.  I have come on here just now because cannot sleep.  I am waiting for biopsy results re a polyp found in my small intestine.  I've read your story and concerns.  Now I have a 38 year old daughter with two young children (also have 4 sons). If she discussed this with me I would be advising her she needed to insist her GP follow the cancer guidelines to get you checked out very quickly.  In Scotland I think that comes down to 2  weeks  to wait but no doubt a Nurse or Moderator can clarify.  So I would get back to GP and press them to think again xx

  • Good morning Celtic, thank you so much for your reply. I'm very sorry to hear about your wait on biopsy results, hopefully you'll get them soon and can sleep well again.

I've actually changed gp because of this, Ive made an appointment with my new gp for this week so hopefully she'll put me on the right path. I didn't know you can get fast tracked with these symptoms. Xxx

  • Morning Daisy

I don't know if NICE guidelines apply where you are.  Asking someone to wait 15 months with your symptoms is just not acceptable - in my view.  Do let us know how you get on xx
