Could it be cancer or am I just being silly?

Hello all,

just over a week ago I saw a small pea sized veiny looking tbruise on my left breast, there is no mass behind it and it is not sore/no tenderness etc but since last time I checked, my breast has definitely changed, looks almost bruised on the nipple area and bigger in size.. I am ringing doctors on Monday.

has anyone else experienced the same??

thank you in advance!

  • Hi, it's not being silly to get these things check.  It may be nothing but best to get it looked at. 5 weeks ago I found what looked like an insect bite on my right breast, which was red with a raw centre. I knew it wasn't a bite because it didn't itch, but I couldn't think what it was because it appeared so suddenly. I thought about it for a few days, then rang the surgery who told me to go straight there. The practitioner examined me and said there was a lump behind the mark but didn't think it was cancer, but didn't say what he thought the mark was other than it wasn't a bite. He said I had done the right thing and sent a 2 week referral which I have an appointment  for tommorrow, albeit two and a half weeks late.

You have done the right thing by deciding to ring your doctor and they won't think you are silly.

  • Amazing! Thank you, I'm only 27 and I know I've heard young girls having breast cancer but doesn't seem as important as cervical? Let me know how you do if you don't mind, I hope all is okay!!

  • No I don't mind and I will let you know.

The important thing is not to freak out if they send a 2 week referral for you.

3 years ago I was referred for suspected throat cancer and 8 years ago for suspected stomach cancer. Both were negative. Whatever the outcome it is best to be seen by the people who know

let me know how you go on. I'm 68 by the way, but still think I'm 27

  • No not silly to check out symptoms. Most things won't be cancer but even if it is, the earlier it is treated  the easier it is to treat and the better the outcome.

  • Hi, just back from the clinic and all clear. It's just a cyst. I was examined and had a mammogram, then they decided to do an ultra sound as well to check something on the mamogram. Anyway it was fine, just fiberous tissue I think she said.

Hope you get to see a doc soon and all is well.

  • Aww amazing news, I'm glad it was all done there and then for you - nothing worse than sat waiting for results. I'm glad it all turned out ok! Keep acting 27 ;)

getting up early in the morning to ring docs.. it's inevitable to think the worst I guess but I've always been healthy up until now so I'm used to having to think about my health haha!

I'll let you know how it goes!

  • I thought the exact same, thank you for responding:)

  • Yes, do let me know.

If your surgery is anything like mine you need to be up early to get through. Mind you since covid I've not had so much trouble getting an appointment, there are so many people not going now.
