Supraclavicular Lymph Node.. Worried!!!!

Hello All,

I recently had my covid vaccine - I noticed my shoulder / collarbone was sensitive when I touched it a day after I noticed I had a small, moveable, lump.

I spoke to the GP on the phone (because of covid) she said it's likely a lymph node from the jab. I went away and still wasn't happy as no one saw me... so I called back and spoke to a different GP... she didn't sound worried either, but called me in... I saw her, she felt it and didn't blink an eye lid... but said she would give me a blood test for peace of mind.

I rang back to get the results and spoke to a further GP... my blood tests were completely normal.... I explained it to him too and he also didn't seem like he was concerned.

I work at a private hospital, so went to see a consultant dermatologist on his lunch break ( he has had a special interest in lumps and bumps for 28 years ) - he wasn't worried, said it was small like a little finger tip size, it was moveable etc... and then he said come and see me in three weeks for a follow up. I went back, he said there's been no change. So he wasn't worried...

I have severe health anxiety and Google is sending me through the roof...

has anyone had a supraclavicular node story and it not be sinister??

I suffer with breast acne, could this cause the swelling???

  • Hi
I think it's still early days for covid reaction reporting, and you are in the same boat as others on this forum, including me. Swollen lymph nodes have been quite well reported in the US after vaccination, both in the armpits and supraclavicular. It's not long since many of us had our first covid injection, and we're all waiting to see whether this turns out to be not such an uncommon side-effect, and also one that can last weeks rather than days. I felt extremely worried after finding the swollen node then looking on Google over a weekend, but feel calmer and more reassured after finding out about the others on this forum. I am partway through waiting 3 weeks, as advised by a GP. She wasn't particularly concerned despite my breast cancer history. It's not long since I had a healthy blood test and also no cancer found in scans of my lower abdomen after previous pains. The doctor told me to stop poking the lymph node, too, giving me a maximum allowance of once a week! All the best, and hope we can all be completely reassured soon.

  • I'm a first time poster here. I have an urgent appointment on Monday and I'm terrified. I haven't been with it all week. Been in tears for most of it.

In 2019 I went to the Dr's with breast pain and was fobbed off with see how it goes and come back next week if still the same. The pain went but I then could feel a lump. I went back to the Dr's and he could feel what I could and I got an appointment. Had an exam and ultrasound and all was fine.

In Feb this year I noticed pain again, the same as before so I went to get checked out. Dr seemed happy, felt my breasts and underarms and was happy there were no lumps. She referred me anyway as routine for my peace of mind. On the 5th March I had my second dose of Pfizer covid vaccine. The next day my underarm was incredibly sore and uncomfortable and I could feel quite easily a huge lump. I contacted the gp after being concerned as underarm lumps are linked to breast cancer and I'd been refered already. They said it could be from the vaccine and to keep an eye and call back in 4 weeks. A lot of people I work with had the same symptoms with the swelling so I felt better. However after 2 weeks my lumps were still there under my armpit, albeit a lot smaller, no breast pain though.

I contacted the gp again and she expepedited my appointment to urgent suspected cancer on 22/03. Appointment through for 26/04 despite being told it would be within 14 days. I've been having some niggles in my shoulder and collarbone too, but I also had this back in 2019 so not sure if this is anxiety. Because of the niggles though I've been poking and prodding and have come across some nodes along my collarbone. I already know from reading Google that this is terrifying. So I am now convinced its going to be bad news. I called the breast clinic and left a message explaining the collarbone nodes and the nurse specialist rang me back, I'd already spoken to her last week regarding any cancellations as she knows how anxious I am. She said she'd had a chat with the consultant and she is running a clinic Monday 12/04 and the consultant will be around too so she could see me as an extra but I might have a wait. I'm a nervous wreck now after discovering the collarbone nodes, but have also seen that it they are also a side effect of the covid vaccination in some people. Really hoping that's all it is and I've only just noticed due to poking and prodding around. There is no obvious visible swelling that I can see. Or have they been there a while and I've only just noticed from prodding, and not a reaction to the vaccine at all. I feel the same about the underarm ones. The gp didn't feel any, then 2 week later I had my vaccine. Did she miss them and the vaccine alerted me to them?

Sorry for the essay. Going out of my mind with worry. I have severe health anxiety which I believe came on after the death of my newborn 8 years ago, but nobody seems to want to act on it, despite me asking for help. I have 2 other children at primary school age and a wonderful husband. This anxiety has me planning my own funeral, making plans for when I'm not here, but it's just not healthy.

  • Hi

So sorry to hear the stress you are going through. It seems like more and more of us are reporting the same possible side effect. My experience is identical - 4 days after my AZ jab I felt a raised node above my collarbone on the same side as the vaccine. 7 weeks later it's still there but slightly reduced in size ( or maybe that's wishful thinking!! ). I am giving it a bit longer to see if it resolves but sounds like nodes can remain swollen for quite a while. I haven't contacted my gp yet but have some routine blood tests coming up soon. I do feel reassured that others are reporting the same side effects but some days my anxiety goes through the roof so know exactly how you feel.
Do hope it turns out ok for everyone and let us know how you get on.

  • Hiya. How are you getting on?? I've had mine 7 weeks now too..

I've had blood tests and all clear, I've spoken to the consultant 2 times and that was clear. But I paid for a private ultrasound as I was so worried... the scan showed a 3mm lymph node... super tiny but felt bigger to me!! No worrying appearances either, the consultant radiographer wasn't worried in the slightest about it!!!

I hope this makes you feel better, to me it feels like a slightly firm, very moveable pea.. I'm so relieved and hope this brings you some reassurance too!

maybe if I stop poking it now it'll go away!!

  • That's great news and thank you for sharing. I'm about to have blood tests but my swollen node has definitely decreased in size. It's positive news that people who have had tests seem to have had similarly reassuring results - although I realise everybody's case is different. Mine sounds identical to yours - a moveable pea sums it up exactly!! I just can't resist rolling it each day!!
You wonder how many cases there are of swollen nodes after Covid vaccines  - and seems like they are staying swollen longer than expected. I do hope you can relax now - and thanks again.

  • Hey! I have this lump! I've had it since at least feb 2020! My toddler is 2 he also has this lump but right side!

ive had it looked at/scanned etc no one is worried Google says the left supraclavicular is a big hello no get help and I told my sonographer this and she said listen I've studied this exact test and area for 28 years (working too) and I see thousands, it's completely normal I wouldn't let you go if I thought it was bad she said she wouldn't even biopsy unless it was larger than 1cm.

my son saw a paediatric and I'd like to think they would at least not mess about with a baby and they aren't worried so I think it's probably okay.

she said it's just right under my skin, and I've had 2 ultrasounds now.

also - collarbone ones are "scary" as they could be a sign of metastatic cancer or lymphoma but both would grow to golf hall size very quickly which is why a 3 week wait was probably asked by your dermatologist.

it's easier said than done but I would try and forget about it and check again in a month or two and if nothing settles ask for an ultrasound x

  • Thank you so much for your words of advice!

Even after my blood tests & seeing the consultant twice I paid for a private ultrasound as I was so worried... the scan showed a 3mm lymph node... super tiny but felt bigger to me!! No worrying appearances either, the consultant radiographer wasn't worried in the slightest about it!!!

    I'm so relieved!

maybe if I stop poking it now it'll go away!! Xx

  • I hope this went ok lovely... xx

  • Hi, I've just been reading your story as I was searching online about the same thing. I had my second Pfizer vaccination last Saturday and on Tuesday evening I felt a twinge on my collarbone & when I felt around it was quite tender in one spot and a bit swollen.

I went to my gp yesterday - he doesn't think it's anything to worry about but is sending me for blood tests next week - I asked him if it could be the vaccine and he said possibly? I got the impression he hadn't heard of it happening before but I've read of a few examples of it online and I think it should be more widely known.

Any unexplained lump or bump is worrying - I'm reassured to hear other people have had the same thing however I will be more reassured when it disappears!

  • Hello

There are quite a lot of recent posts about the lymph nodes appearing after the vaccine, seems that the UK are not reporting on it as much as the UK. Just looking on Twitter etc there are so many posts. I replied to a few and 2 people from the US said it is widely reported there. Maybe it is here and I just haven't seen it.

2 weeks ago today I had my first AZ vaccine and 2 days after I felt the lymph node. There are a lot saying to take comfort in it as if it is vaccine related your body is doing what it should but, every lump or bump should be checked out.

I called my GP when I found mine and hos attitude was shocking, telling me that there was no point in me seeing him as he would just tell me I had a lump, I called again and spoke to another doctor who saw me. Having that attitude might stop someone with a sinister lump get checked!

He thinks it is vaccine related but didn't seem too know too much I think as it isn't really a thing spoken about here but to relieve my anxiety he is sending me for a scan. I think it might have decreased a bit?

a pea size lump that sometimes sits on my collarbone, can move it. If I push my collarbone out I can't find it.

    sending best wishes to all.

    Nat
