Throat issues

My medical history is a little mind boggling so I'll try to synopsise as the best I can.
2011 CIN 3. Abnormal smear results. HPV positive. Letz procedure. High risk cervical cancer.  (Mum had cervical cancer - I know it's not genetic, but it's also a worry!)
2015 sterilisation.
2015 osteoid oeadema (non cancerous spinal tumour C4)
2016 spinal (neck) surgery to remove tumour.

2017 hysterectomy.

2020 hyper mobility and fibromyalgia diagnosis

2021 trouble swallowing. Feeling of a lump in my throat. Hoarse voice. No pain. Urgent referral to ENT.
MRI throat scan. Consultant called on Friday (week after 1st scan) to request another scan be done for higher up. Haven't physically seen anyone to look at my throat/mouth. But am worried that they want a repeat scan! Got an emergency app through today for Sunday. Should I be worried?

  • Hello Southernlady and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to see what you've been through over the last 5 - 10 years but fingers crossed the symptoms you're currently contending with will turn out to be no cause for concern.

Numerous tests are sometimes needed before the doctors can figure out what's going on so try not to panic too much about having a repeat scan.

From your post I can see your appointment for that second scan is today so I just want to wish you good luck and let you know we're thinking of you.

Do let us know how you get on and as I said earlier, we hope the results will show it's not anything sinister.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Steph,

Thank you for your well wishes

  • Hi Steph,

just got back...that was an unexpected long appointment! I had to have a dye injected via cannula. Apparently the neck mri showed something so a head mri was requested for today with the clearer images via the dye.
the radiographer said that there were cystic changes (whatever that means) and my consultant will be in touch. I have a follow up app on 27/4...so as long as there are no out of the blue phone calls before then...I'm not going to worry.
thank you for your kind words earlier. It meant a great deal x

  • How are u getting on I'm having the same symptoms  with lump in my throat it's horrible

  • Hi, symptoms are much the same. Although the hoarseness frequency is becoming more often

I haven't had any out of the blue calls from the consultant since the two mri's, so I'm guessing it's not anything serious
I have my follow up app next tues, so will see what they say then.
thank you for caring and enquiring into my health anomalie ️

  • Just back from my consultant app....didn't see consultant but the ent specialist surgeon. They put a camera up my nose and diagnosed silent reflux and prescribed gaviscon. The reason for the second mri was that there was something detected in my brain so they have referred their findings to the big city hospital 'brain dept'. They said they would contact me once they have received further info from them; so overall I'm relieved that my throat appears to be nothing and manageable but now concerned about whatever they found in my brain ‍ hoping they are just being overly cautious and it's nothing
