Waiting...

Hello, first post regarding myself. I went to my GP in January with a lump in my neck, had some bloods done which came back within normal ranges and an ultrasound scan, which showed abnormal lymph nodes, so was referred on the 2ww to ENT. The consultant examined me - (I have a cluster of matted lymph nodes) and said 'on the evidence I have I'm pretty certain you have lymphoma' - but we need a few more tests to be certain. Had full body CT scan and FNA. Six weeks passed until I had a phone consultation, to say the biopsy was inconclusive and the scan showed no spread to any other nodes or organs and I'd need a core biopsy.  I've received my appointment today - it's for the end of the month.  I feel like I've been waiting ages. My partner thinks it can't be anything serious as they don't seem to be in any hurry. Is he right? How long is an average wait, and should I be worried?

Thanks

  • Hello Porky,

A big welcome to our forum!

It's good that they are being thorough and that they are going to do a core biopsy. I hope that you will get some definite answers once you get your results. Unfortunately, it's impossible really to draw any conclusions from the fact that you've been waiting for a long time or that the appointment won't be until the end of the month. I am not sure myself how long an average wait would be as there are so many factors that could be at play which will determine when an appointment will take place.

We are keeping everything tightly crossed for you though that you get some clarity on all this soon and a definite diagnosis. I hope that you will hear from some of our members who have had a similar experience before and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
