Lump on both sides of groin and swollen lymph nodes in neck

Hi everyone,

So I saw the doctor twice last month, once about a suspected ear infection which I had antibiotics for, and again for swollen lymph nodes in my neck and collar bone. The doctor felt them and said they felt like swollen lymph nodes and they didn't feel concerning. It's been 4 weeks and they haven't gone down (they haven't grown either). I've just found a hard-ish pea-sized lump on the left side of my groin, and then another a bit lower down on the right side. I can wiggle them slightly but they feel rather fixed and they're not painful or tender.

Along with these, I'm also experiencing throat pain mainly on the left side of my throat (particularly after talking for a long time and swallowing) and occasional stabbing pains in both my ears (but typically my left). I also have a lot of sinus pain and pressure but not an unusual amount of mucus. Some days I have no pain at all and then other days it seems to flare up and hurt a lot.

I don't feel more tired than usual, and I haven't experienced any symptoms other than these

I was wondering whether anyone had experienced anything similar? I'm really concerned and it's so hard to get a doctor's appointment because of COVID.

Freya.

  • Hi Freya and welcome to Cancer Chat,

Unfortunately no one here will be able to tell you what it might be so the best thing to do is to go back to your doctor and to explain that the throat pain is still very much there and that the lymph nodes haven't gone down. Despite covid, you will be able to talk to a doctor about this I am sure so do give them a call and mention that you would like to get their expert advice on this. Your GP will be in the best position to tell you more.

There is information on this page on how to make the most of your appointment  and about contacting your GP during these coronavirus times.

I hope you manage to speak to someone soon and that you get some answers.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi!

    Thank you for replying...
I went back to the doctor today and he inspected my throat and my ears, and felt the lymph nodes and asured me they're nothing to worry about but that he'd send me for a blood test just to be safe and rule out anything there.

He said because he couldn't see or feel anything abnormal it may just be a chronic pain issue or related to GERD. I do have one lymph nodes that is hard and fixed but he said because it's small and hasn't grown that it's probably fine ://

I feel stupid when I go the the doctor and they tell me it's fine and I don't believe them :(
