Bone growth on wrist

Hello,

I hope it's okay to post. I've had bad wrist pain for over a year, since my son was a newborn. I thought it was tendonitis but even though the pain lessened, it still happens and I still get stiffness in the joint. A bony lump has appeared on the inside of my wrist. They've ruled out rheumatoid arthritis but my vitamin D is low.

I went to the doctor today and she has confirmed the lump is hard (I.e bone not a ganglion) and said not all bone growths are cancerous. This has terrified me because I'm a single mum to a 20 month old and I'm terrified I have cancer.

Has anyone been through something similar and can offer any words of comfort?

Thanks so much.

  • Hello Fae89,

You did the right thing to go to the doctor's. Did the doctor refer you to have additional tests or scans? As your doctor rightly pointed out, not all bone growths are cancerous so I hope that this will give you some reassurance.

I keep everything crossed for you that everything turns out to be nothing to worry about for you. Try not to anticipate what it might be and avoid looking anything up online until you get some answers. Focus on being with and playing with your little one  - I can imagine you are so busy with a 20 months old - and hopefully you will get some clarity on what this gone growth on your wrist is very soon.

I hope that you will hear from our other members here who have had something similar before and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

Thanks so much for your reply. The GP said she was referring me for an x Ray, she didn't mention anything else. She did say I might have to see an orthopaedic surgeon but they might not remove it (or they might because of the pain it's causing).

It's so hard not to search Google for answers!

    Thanks so much again x

  • Just wondering if anyone has any experience they can share? Mind is going on overdrive with worry. Thank you

  • So I had my x Ray and it says 'no bony abnormalities, soft tissue swelling, refer for ultrasound'

They had a cancellation so being seen tomorrow as they've done it as an urgent three week referral. Has anyone experienced this? The word 'urgent' is worrying me. Thank you

  • I hope this information we have about urgent referrals will help put your mind at ease but hopefully you'll hear back from some of our members with similar experiences soon.

Good luck for tomorrow Fae. We'll be thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed for good news.

    All the best,
