One stop breast clinic - they do all the tests there?

I received my appointment last week for the breast clinic. Before I did, a couple of days before I called the doctors surgery and asked the receptionist what sort of referral I had as I was unsure on wait times. The receptionist told me it was an urgent referral to the one stop breast clinic. On my understanding this is a breast clinic where they do appropriate testing all in one day if necessary right? My only worry is, my appointment is at 6.30 pm, isn't this quite late to be pulling out loads of testing? On my Letter it just states which consultant I am seeing. Nothing about tests or how long approximately I will be there. Just seems very late in the day even just to see a consultant. And experiences or anyone else had something similar. Thankyou x

Sorry i have just seen this, :-(

I have just got my letter out again now getting ready for tomorrow! and im not sure where i read it about being in the clinic for a long time , i think it must have been my doctor when i think back but my letter also says seeing consultant with no mention of time likely in clinic or tests to be done! so i amy be in the exact same situation as you and hoping its not just to be seen and then have to go back for tests! i do know last year in jan when i went i did have mammogram and ultrasound x 2 but didnt need a biopsy so did get all tests on that visit. I am freaking out a bit now more so as like you i want to get all done in one day if possible.

I am 55 years old so in the danger age i suppose.

Good luck for tommorow i will be thinking of you and i will update on my visit as soon as i can once ive done all being well. xxxxx

  • That's ok [@louiser]‍ no need to be sorry, we all have busy lives I guess.

oh both of our letters are similar, where abouts in the uk are you? Do you have to go to your local hospital breast clinic? Hopefully both of us will have the tests we need in the day rather than going back and forth! Did you get the all clear last year? Is it the same breast you had worries last year to now? I can't imagine they will give me a mammogram due to my age unless absolutely necessary I suppose.

I have had a busy day today so it's definitely kept my mind off it a lot, until my partner mentioned to me not long ago that I have my appointment tomorrow, he is supportive but because I suffer with health anxiety too he brushes a lot of it off. We are discussing it now and he doesn't think anything is wrong says I will be fine, just like all the other times I have worried about stuff, which I kindly pointed out that previous issue I have had, a lot of my symptoms were tripled my anxiety where as this one is visible and feelable so I am kinda freaking out over it worries it's something sinister! Sorry needed to get that off my chest! Lol.

I think everyone is in the danger zone! I don't think age always matters if u ask me.

but good luck with your appointment tomorrow, you should be able to update me before I get to my appointment. Will be thinking of you too, lots of positive thoughts and hugs sent your way xx

    Hi Again,

Yes it definatly does not mention any tests or time in clinic ect, i cant remember if my letter last time did im sure it did though.

I have however looked on the hospital website and it has all the inforamtion on the breast clinic there and does say that on the first appointment i will meet the consultant who will chat about the problem from refferal letter, examine both breasts and then have tests usually mammogram and ultrasound and depending on the results of these maybe a biopsy and to expect to be in the clinic for a few hours. I am in bradford so its st lukes hospital breast surgery clinic/one stop clinic.

Last time i had mammogram first, then an ultra sound and was told i would see consultant again and to wait, however they then called me back to ultasound and the consultant radiographer did another as they were not sure as it didnt show on mammogram ( i did freak a bit!) but then went to consultant and they said it was either lipoma or fibroadenoma no treatment or biopsy needed. Its the same left breast but not the same place. i didnt find them the GP did,  one to the left outer side left breast and one posterior to nipple. Im a tad apprehensive as i have also had aching there in that side for a while, im post menopause so thats not normal either :-( . i think with these things we do tend to notice things more and scare ourselves. Im not a person who has health anxiety usually but this is a different ball game so i really feel for you having anxiety too.

How old are you? what time is your appointment, did you say 6.30pm? i reckon they are probably working longer to catch up with covid ect and also having to thoroughly clean everyting down after each patient will make it more time consuming ( however being a healthcare trainer and teaching inf control that really should be done par for course pandemic or not lol)

Sendin a hug your way and as soon as i can tomorrow i will come on to update, i will be looking out for you tomorrow evening too xx positive thoughts this could all be over by tomorrow evening for us both xx

  • Hello,

it's so frustrating isn't it not knowing what's going to happen while we are there. I went to the breast clinic 4 years ago, I don't even remember receiving the letter haha. But I do know I had the ultrasound straight after seeing the consultant and then I left with good news. But that was a morning appointment, I think I'm just worried because it's so late in the evening.
maybe I will also have a look on my hospital website and see if there is any added information, I never thought to do that.

bless you, I would have freaked out too! But I'm glad that it was ok for you that time and hopefully it will be the same this time too. I am the same, the last couple of weeks I have had breast pain, in both breasts but more so the right where I have the lump so I am feeling worried too. The health anxiety is just another level of something else to worry about, sometimes it takes over my life!

I am 30! Yes it's at 6.30pm, thanks for remembering lol. I think to u may be right, one of the nurses responded on this chat too and said that it's a possibility that some clinics will be open later so maybe that's why. I agree lol should always be cleaned thoroughly in between not just because of the pandemic.

thankyou. I will also be waiting to hear from you. Yes I am trying to think positive and I have it here for the both of us, fingers crossed it will be over for both of us tomorrow! Xx

  • [@louiser]‍ good luck today xx

  • How did you both get on? I'm there tomororw after having to pay private, the area I live in is a 4 week wait, I'm going out my mind after a week I can't possibly wait another 3 xx

  • [@Trgetuhht]‍  hello,

I haven't yet had my appointment, it's not until 6.30 tonight, so I have kept myself busy deep cleaning my house from top to bottom to keep my mind off of it.

sorry to hear you are going through the same thing, how frustrating it's a 4 week wait and you have had to pay private. Good luck for tomorrow I hope it's a good outcome and will put your mind at ease. Xx

[@louiser]‍ how did you get on. Xx

  • Thank you, good luck for your appointment, mines similar times tomororw as yours I'm having to travel over and hour away to be seen but if it puts my mind at ease tomorrow and know the results instead of waiting another 3 weeks, please let us know how you get on.

    Claire xxx

  • Oh bless you that is a long journey. Yes hopefully it will put your mind at ease.
    I will do   xx
