27 and lumps found, so scared!

Hi everyone,

last Sunday I found a hard lump in my right breast just under my nipple. I rang the doctor first thing on Monday morning where she found some smaller lumps in my left breast. She's sent a referral off for a scan but I am so so scared! I feel like my mind can't switch off and that I've been waiting a lifetime. I know it's just a week and it can take a little while but I'm so nervous

has anyone experienced this? I'm so so scared.

  • Sorry you have this worry.
I went to the gp with a painful lump that came from nowhere - 3 weeks ago. Got an appointment within a week at the breast clinic. Got a mammogram , ultrasound and biopsy . They said it looked suspicious. Back on wed for results. The anxiety I have been feeling is overwhelming. Had to get meds from my Gp. You are young so cancer is rare . I'm 48.......

you should be proud that you went to the doctor when you did . Let me know how ypu get on x

  • Hey,

Sorry to hear you are feeling like this. I am 26 and in a similar position to you. My breasts have always felt quite lumpy, however last week I felt a hard pea sized lump on my right breast near my armpit and panicked. I got a doctors appointment the same day, the doctor said there was a lot of dense tissue and the lump was abnormal so I have been referred to the breast clinic. Like you I am so worried and anxious. I'm so bad for googling any symptoms so I've been driving myself insane!! But I have spoken to a few women in my family who have made me feel a little better as they have been in similar situations and it's just turned out to be fatty tissue and cysts. Also these forums have made me feel a lot calmer. The wait seem such a long time so it's good to just keep your mind busy and not let your imagination run away with you! Best of luck with your appointment  Xx

    Hi Marieelise,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your symptoms and how worried they are making you feel. It is perfectly normal to feel scared - we all do. Not all lumps are cancerous. Many young people have naturally lumpy breasts or benign cysts. The only way to be certain whether or not this is something untoward is to have it tested at the breast clinic, so you are doing the right thing.

It might help you to know that only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

Keeping my fingers crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx

  • Hi everyone,

    thanks for your replies!

i have ready that cancer is rare at my age but my mind is constantly overthinking and I definitely Google everything f way to much! Reading through these forums has definitely helped me feel calmer! It's the waiting and the unknown that's the worst part!

  • I'm experiencing something similar at the moment and I can relate to the worry. I went to the hospital before Christmas about a breast lump and was told it was a cyst. It didn't go away but actually got bigger and I was advised to go back to the hospital. They did a biopsy and, due to the Easter holidays, it's a 2 week wait for the results. I'm really nervous about it but I am trying to carry on as normal.

The positive thing I'd say is that the nurses and doctors in the breast care clinic that I've met so far have been lovely and try their best to make the situation less stressful. It's worth remembering that there are lots of reason for breast lumps and the majority are quite easy to treat.

Best of luck and I hope it all turns out well for you. X

    Hi Marieelise,

I am so glad to hear that you are feeling a little calmer having read some of the posts on this forum. We always advise people waiting for an appointment to steer clear of google, as it nearly always makes us fear the worst.

You are quite right. It's the unknown and uncertainties that really scare us. Fortunately, breast cancer is one of the most treatable cancers these days.

Please let us know how you get on. Here's hoping that you get good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
