Hello all
Firstly, kind wishes and thoughts to all forum users who on this Easter weekend are worried, in pain, sad or grieving.
i just wanted to get this off my chest. I am nearly 4 mths down the road with as yet undiagnosed symptoms and was really disconcerted by a F2F with a consultant (gastroenterologist) this week. I paid to see him F2F rather than wait to just speak to him on the phone as per my NHS referral but in spite of symptoms which include ongoing pain in my right-side, pain also in my back (referred, I think), indigestion and weight loss, he suggested that these symptoms might be muscular or skeletal in origin. I was flabber-gasted. How do you tell an experienced consultant you think they are wrong???? It is true my blood tests and scans (ultrasound and CT with contrast dye) and recent endoscopy have all been normal but ... i admitted when asked I have been anxious about the symptoms but fear I am now labelled as a neurotic female patient.
i pointed out that no unusual activity/incident or injury had precipitated the onset of symptoms, that they dont feel muscular or skeletal (I am familiar with such having always been active in sports and fitness). He has suggested arranging a further scan after I speak to him in 2 wks on my nhs referral. I am just hoping any such scan (MRI is what I am expecting) will revisit the organs in the gastro-intestinal region as I can't believe this is muscular or skeletal but feel really worried I am not being heard or taken seriously.
Has anyone else been in the situation of having a consultant tell them something they just dont believe to be the case or which has subsequently proven to be wrong? I respect the knowledge and experience of he individual concerned but my gut feeling (excuse the pun) is that this isnt the issue.
Feeling rather helpless. I never expected getting a diagnosis for ongoing pain and weight loss would be such a battle.
Thanks for reading.
Bluebear xx
