Right supraclavicular lymph node - scared!

Had GP appointment 1/4/21 because of a lump I found 2 days ago near my collar bone. They said its a swollen right supraclavicular lymph node but wanted me to try antibiotics first and have bloods done before sending me for a scan. Got home and rang for bloods appointment but couldn't get me in for 2 weeks. then had a voicemail from gp asking me to go back for further examination with her and another gp. They did bloods, breast, tummy and rectal examination and they referring me for a chest xray and ultra sound scans and I've to take the antibiotics.  Getting very nervous and need to stop googling!

  • Hello Melaniejo26,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your chest XRay and ultrasound scans. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more. I hope that the antibiotics are doing the trick.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and you are right Dr Google will bring you no good so try and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hope all goes well for you Melaniejo26.  I was actually researching the exact same symptoms and came across your post on this forum. Please keep us updated if you dont mind, as I will also. My dates and finding are exactly like yours. I have an ultrasound tomorrow for my neck area, alread had one for my admomen. All the best.

  • Sorry you are going through thus too. I'm still waiting to hear about scans and also waiting for bloods to come back. Best of luck with your tests and I will keep you updated x

  • How did it go?

I received my results today and I pretty upset as the radiologist report makes reference to my left neck when I was actually getting my right neck scanned.

First line reads " Technique: Ultrasound of the left neck in the area of the clinical concern in the superclavicular areas was performed ".

It says they didnt find anything and noted my 0.5cm nodule which could represent a small lymph node seen.

So I dont know what to make of this to be honest. My issue was the right side of the neck and swelling like yours, I do recall that the ultrasound was focusing on the right side , but the report title stating left side has left me somewhat uncomfortable. Hope yours went well.

  • That does sound confusing, and no doubt leaving you more confused, more anxious and with more questions. Do you have a follow appointment?. I go for my ultra sound tomorrow morning and an appointment 1st May for chest xray x

  • Hello

I came across this thread whilst googling! Can I ask what your results were please?

My hubby found a lump above his right collarbone two weeks ago. He's had an ultrasound which shows a mass of 1.6cm. He's got an appointment at Haematology in a couple of weeks. Waiting to hear about CT and biopsy. Everything I have googled looks horrendous and I am so so scared. As is he. He is 41 and we have two young children

He had a few night sweats, is feeling tired on and off and does have some itching - all these again are scaring us.

  • Hi Mumstheword and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's lump and for the worry this is causing.

I know you were hoping to hear what Melaniejo's results were but I've noticed they haven't been on the forum in 6 months so there is a chance you may not hear back from them.

If you don't receive a reply, you're very welcome to start a new discussion about this on the forum.

Waiting for tests and results is always very difficult but I hope this article on how to cope with the wait will help keep your nerves at bay until your husband's appointment.

    Best wishes to you both,
