Should I take eldest daughter with me when I get my results?

Hi everyone,

i have just recently been referred for an urgent appointment to see the hospital regarding a swelling on the floor of my mouth. And as I have recently separated from my wife I would just like some advice on wether to ask my eldest daughter to come with me to get the results after the biopsy is done ( my doctor said they are likely to do this ). I am thinking she is to young but I have no one else who would/ or I would like to be with me. If I don't ask her I know I will offend her if I do I'm worried about putting this burden on her. I would normally suck it up but my mental health hasn't been that good since the marriage breakdown. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi David,

I think it depends how old she is and how she is able to process the news. I'm going through some challenging issues right now and the only person I really want around me is my son. He gives me strength and comfort so I totally understand where you are coming from.

Our instinct is to protect our kids at all costs but I think it's better to be open and honest and give them the facts.

    Good Luck with your appointment.

    Best Wishes,

    Sam

  • Hi Sam,

Thank you for that, My daughter is 17 years old. Hence my I'm hesitant about taking her with me. Although I think she will be able to process this if it was bad news.

    Many thanks

    David
