oropharyngeal SCC: persisting swelling?

Hi guys,

I finished the full 6 week chemo-radio for oropharygeal cancer  (T4a N0M0), with a lot of pain and missery but I completed it (!) 6 months ago. One initial symptom was that the right tongue side was very swollen and elevated. Since then, this has imporved but it is stil there. A current MRI shows the assymetry and I am for a biopsy soon to be sure...

Any similar experience for sweeling persisting for so long? Could it be recurrence, or a radiotherapy fibrosis-related swelling?

Many thansk i nadvance for any thoughts!

  • Hello Yannis

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some post-treatment problems. Hopefully, the upcoming biopsy that you have will bring some reassurance that the swelling is nothing to be concerned about.

We've quite a few members here on the forum who have been through treatment for oral cancers and I know that they have shared their stories about tough things were. In particular, you might want to have a look for posts by [@RadioactiveRaz][@Taff123]‍ and [@Anchor1707]‍ ‍ who have all shared links to blogs that they're written during their treatment and beyond. You may find something within their experiences that helps.

I hope that you have some news soon.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
