Tamoxifen

(my mum)

Does tamoxifen cause bone pain

pain in one foot with small raised lump on right hand side only pea sized

I am so worried it's the breast cancer she had in 2018 what if they never got rid of it and now it's all in her bones her dr has sent her for X-ray and asked for a bone density scan is this to detect cancer ...?

    Hi Aeoh,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I only took Tamoxifen for 1 year and I did have joint pain, but it was more widespread than just in one small area. I am not a doctor, but understand that many people in the UK suffer from Arthritis. It is possibly more likely that this is the cause of your mum's small lump.

Your GP has done the right thing in sending her for an x-ray, which would show up any arthritic swelling. The bone density scan can show whether or not there is any cancer in her bones. Try not to worry. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years. I was on Tamoifen for 1 year, then changed to Letrozole for 6½ years. I have several lumps and bumps and have just recently had a bone scan, as I had started to take seizures. I am delighted to say that the scan showed no bone involvment.

Here's hoping that your mum's outcome will be the same. Please keep in touch and let us know how she gets on. We are always here for both of you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
