Colonoscopy - vaginal bleeding also

Hi everyone,

I would appreciate some advice - I am 44. I have had persistent bleeding for about 8 months now from vagina. It tails off but comes back within a week of no 'period.'
My iron stores are low and my recent smear was negative.  I have just had a hysteroscopy with biopsies snd still awaiting a return. However, after the procedure the consultant said that she could see nothing of any concern. I also had a clear ultrasound of my ovaries as I had a small dermoid cyst removed two years ago.

I have also been having really erratic bowel issues. Mucus from the bowel, IBS symptoms e.g. constipation, runs, stomach pains etc.... I had a failed colonoscopy today and have now been referred for a CT scan. Even with the so called 'sedation' I was in excruciating pain when the consultant tried to manoeuvre the scope around the bumps and bends of my 'rigid, fixed colon.' So so sore - and I've had three babies!

I am desperate to see if anyone has a similar story. I am so tired all the time and I used to be a runner. I can't do that now as I feel so much pressure in my lower tummy. I had the coil in a few years ago but decided to get it removed and have been on Cerelle (progesterone only pill) for almost two years. I am aware irregular bleeding is common but this is persistent!!

I am becoming a shadow of my former self. I've not lost any weight but put it on around my middle as I'm constantly bloated and uncomfortable. I would appreciate any advice as I feel as if I'm a fraud. Thanks so much you lovely people.

  • Hello Jo7249

I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing health problems that you've been dealing with. It sounds like it's been a difficult time for you and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious and frustrated at not having any answers.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for the CT scan and the images will give the team a better idea of what is responsible for your symptoms.

If you'd like to have a chat with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi, I have recently had a colonoscopy as my iron levels were low causing anaemia, the procedure was very difficult as my bowel was rigid and twisted.

After 2 hours they could not see all of the bowel so I now have to have a CT colonography, but I have been left with vaginal bleeding which has eased to watery blood but losing clots down the toilet. I was admitted to hospital for a night and put on Transemic Acid which hasn't really helped.

Due to see my Oncology consultant after CT so hopefully will get some more answers.

Have found it difficult to find info so really pleased someone else in a similar situation.

hopefully we can get some resolve.
