Suspected lymphoma?

Hi. I have been looking for some answers to my symptoms as they are quite worrying and I was hoping to hear some advice/experience before I go to the doctor next week. A month ago I found a painless lump in my right underarm. I originally thought that it might be an infection due to a cold or something. Since then the lump has grown in size and is now really quite painful. It does move and I have pain in the right side of my ribs. It also hurts when I breathe and the pain/breathlessness is worse when I'm active. I have also been experiencing discomfort and pain behind my tummy button for a while now. I became concerned in December when I had two glasses of champagne and shortly after experienced pain in my upper chest/arms. I put this down to having a heart condition but now I'm not so sure. Since last summer I have been suffering from debilitating migranes/headaches, I had these checked out and nothing came back. I have had a cough for 2 months now. Last year I woke in the night with agonising pain in my knees and felt like I had broken them and had to crawl to the bathroom. I have only experienced 'night sweats' a few times so I don't think I count that as a symptom. I experience chest pain and chest bone pain almost everyday now. I am always tired and either lying/sitting down or napping. I have very itchy legs and thought it was because of the weather change or the clothes I was wearing until I realised that the soles of my feet, palms of my hands and breasts were extremely itchy. I have been suffering from back pain as well. If anyone could let me know what their first symptoms were of lymphoma and how they *knew* what it was, that would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much!

  • Hi

So sorry your going through this. I was diagnosed with lymphoma last January after numerous trips to the GP with various ailments.  My symptoms where

    Back pain

    Breathlessness

    Pain when drinking alcohol

    Fatigue

    Heart palpitations

    Hot flashes.

I didnt have any obvious lumps so my GP never really considered lymphoma until I had some bloods which came back abnormal  ( very high ESR and CRP levels). This triggered a referral for a chest xray which highlighted "widening" in my chest which I later found out was a 10cm lymphoma tumor.

I would advise that you make an appointment with GP but please keep pushing for answers if your bloods come back as normal as this can still happen with lymphoma.  Obviously there are lots of other things it could be but please take some reassurance that if it is hodgkin's its extremely treatable and has a very good cure rate.
