Rectal Bleeding

Hi I am 35 yrs old and weigh in at 20 stone which is obese. I have dropped 2 stones in 6 months by healthy eating and going for walks.

5 weeks ago I noticed that each time I was passing stools it had just a really bright streak of Pink Blood on it for the first 2 days. Then after I would experience fresh pink blood in the toilet pan but only a few drops not enough to change the colour of the water in the pan. After passing these stools I would experience a pain and a burn in my anus. I would then after start to experience slime on the toilet paper when I would wipe and also it leaked into my underpants on 2 separate onassions which was so embarrassing. I would also have the feeling in my bowels that It's not emptied itself fully but then couldn't pass any stools for a couple of days and when I didn't it would be hard lumps accompanied by pink fresh little dots of blood. My mum and her mum both have suffered from deep Piles and had heavy bleeding, where as mine was just little drops. I contacted my GP 5 weeks ago when symptoms first begun and he said this is Piles and he gave me some Gel ointment to use and also a course of Suppositorys which helped ease my symptoms a little but the slight bleeding and the burning continued and occasionally I would have pink blood mixed with my stool but this only happened like 3 times. Last week Thursday bleeding stopped and my bowel movements returned to normal. I had a pre booked appointment with my GP and we spoke on the phone on Friday 26th March and I did say to him that the bleeding has eased off and I am slowly getting better by the looks of it. He suggested that I complete 2 bottles of a stool sample and a blood test and he said we will check for everything like IBD, IBS, Colitis, Crohns and Cancer of course, but he is adamant that it is Piles as I have a family history of this and he has told that I should not be worried as he does not think It's anything sinister but just wants to investigate it and find the route cause for this, but is 90% sure it is Piles judging by symptoms. I have never had any pains in my stomach or lower abdomen since this has been happening and no sudden weight loss or anything.

Should I be worried even though my GP has reassured me that this is Piles but just wants to rule out all the above conditions?

  • Hi Rohit85,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of the difficulties you've been experiencing. I would try to take some encouragement from the doctor's reassurance and the fact he doesn't seem too worried. It sounds as if he is being thorough by ordering the additional tests, which is great as it means you'll have some definite answers and hopefully some peace of mind before too long.

I hope you find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Do you mind me asking how you got on? I'm pretty much the same? And am seeing a doctor next week - I'm terrified

  • Hey I'm also very worried and cannot help being worried all the time. My Doctors Surgurey sent me a text saying please book a routine appointment with your GP to discuss latest tests results. This is for the Stool Sample I sent off and I'm so nervous with what he's going to tell me. My Blood Test is booked for the 19th April as my hospital isn't doing them at the moment so the waiting time is crazy. It's weird because I have a bowel movement 3 times a day and the morning one will contain fresh bright red almost a pink colour of fresh blood in the water. Then my afternoon movement is perfect with no blood and then the evening one will be slightly loose with bright pink blood on the tissue. I am a person who is always anxious about health. Can I ask do you have the similar symtoms to me? And what is your GP doing and how are you feeling? My GP suspected Piles to begin with as my Anus would hurt and Burn after a movement with blood on the tissue. Now he's checking for IBS, Ulcerative Colitis, Chron's Disease, Coeliac Disease and Cancer so I'm just praying It's not the worst. Wishing you all the best of luck with your outcome and please share with me and I will do the same.
