Found lumps, still waiting for scan appt

Hi

I recently felt a hard lump between my breast/armpit area so am a little worried as my mum has history of breast cancer. Along with this recently found lump, I have another lump on my neck which I have had slighter longer, and once again have cause for concern as my brother had lymphoma of the throat. Bearing in mind the fact I have family history of cancer in both the areas I have located these lumps, I thought it best to go see my GP. Unfortunately she was unable to feel the lumps (Although I do feel as though she was a bit hesitant and didn't really have a particularly good feel), however she did say she would refer me for a scan. It's been 3 weeks now and no appointment letter has arrived. Is it normal to take this long or should I be chasing it up? I completely understand that the NHS is under tough times so may have to wait longer then normal, but I am just very concerned due to my family history and am extremely eager to get these scans. Any advise appreciated x

  • Hello Emma_372

I'm sorry to hear about your recent health concerns. It's obviously a worrying time for you.

It may be worth getting in touch with the hospital to see how long waiting lists currently are. As you've mentioned there are some delays in certain areas due to the pressures of Covid but it's worth checking your referral has been received. You could also ask if they hold a cancellation list so that if they have an appointment available at short notice they could call you.

We know that waiting for tests and appointments can be a particularly difficult time and I do hope that you don't have to wait too long.

    Best wishes,
