Endometrium lining - results wait

Hi everyone,

I hope you don't mind me posting but I am sick with worry about my identical twin sister and generally looking to hear your experiences. We're both about to turn 25 next month and went to the smear test together in January. My results were fine but my sister had HPV identified (we both had the HPV vaccination) and was invited to a colposcopy. I've spoken to my sister and she's happy with me to ask for advice here.

She had her appointment on Wednesday (24th March) and when she was there, they took 3 biopsies. 2 were for a number of pre-cancerous and abnormal cells identified. When she was there, the nurse noticed that her endometrium was 'very delicate' but didn't say much more than that and took a biopsy for this. Of course, we're over analysing that the nurse went quiet when she saw this. My sister has always found intercourse a little uncomfortable and spotting isn't uncommon for her.

She's now waiting up to 4 weeks for results. It's only day 2 and it's difficult. My question really is, has anyone else had something else unexpectedly pop up at their colposcopy? Are pre-cancerous cells anything to worry about? Any experiences with endometrium linings?

Thank you in advance x

  • Hello Yeso

I'm sorry to hear about the health concerns that your sister has been dealing with recently. It's understandable that you're both feeling anxious about things.

There's some really useful information available on the Jo's Trust website here about cell changes and hopefully, it will help give you both some reassurance about things.

It can be really easy to read things into a person's response during an appointment and I can understand why you may have felt worried about the nurse being "quiet". It could simply be that at that point she was concentrating on what she was doing so that she took the biopsy correctly.

Hopefully, your sister won't have to wait too long for her results. If either of you would like to talk about your concerns with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm).

    Best wishes,
