Pain in ankle

Hi all,

I have had a pain in my ankle for just over 12 months now. I have had a couple of MRI scans and one ultrasound scan on it and there's some sort of lump in there and my Dr's are still trying to figure out what it is. If it has grown on this last MRI they're gonna do a biopsy to figure out if it is cancer or benign.

I had an MRI last week and my next appointment is in 3 months (due to a backlog caused by COVID) but the pain is pretty bad and feels like it's getting worse. I've tried taking paracetamol and ibuprofen but they don't really help and I don't think I should take them daily for months.

What can I do? I've tried ibuprofen cream on it but that doesn't help either. I would normally go to my GP but I have spoken to them a lot about other health issues of mine so I don't want to be annoying and I don't want to go to a pharmacy because of the risk of catching COVID so I feel a bit stuck!

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with ongoing pain at the moment. Hopefully, the results of your most recent MRI will bring some answers and good news.

I would have suggested that you speak to your local pharmacist about what over-the-counter pain relief options may be available to you but you've said you don't feel comfortable visiting them because of Covid concerns. So I'd suggest getting back in touch with your GP for some advice. They may be able to prescribe something for you and arrange a prescription delivery to you at home.

I do hope that things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
