Lymph Glands

Any advice welcome.

My 5 year old started complaining of her neck hurting when she did PE at school after going back in January. Had a look and could see a visible lump on her neck (right side) below her ear. I rang the doctors and was told it was a viral infection it will go down in two week.

Two weeks later I get a phone call from school at lunch time, your child needs picking up she has been sick. My daughter said I'm okay I just felt full so my food came up, this continues to happen for a week so we go to the out of hours. They say she's got a swollen lymph node in her stomach pressing against it so the sensation of being full is making her sick. The gland in her neck is still present and getting bigger. Doctors advise me to go back to GP in two weeks to get checked if they are still causing issues.

2 weeks later my daughter is complaining of headaches when waking up, she's lost alot of weight, im having to go to school twice a week minimum to administer paracetamol because she is complaining her yummy and neck hurts. We go back to the GP and finally feel like we are getting somewhere. GP says yes she has swollen gland in stomach also (5cm) gland in right side of neck and 3 (2cm) glands in left side of neck. She's said as no signs of infections I will refer her to get checked out and get biopsy done.

2 weeks later I received a letter for a paediatrician referral. A referral for an non urgent appointment, I rang them and they said I could be waiting months for an appointment. Its already been more than 2 months.

I have all these questions running round my head. Has anyone had these symptoms before. Could this be lymphoma, what do I do, where do I go from here? I though lymph nodes were an ENT thing? Am I overthinking it? Has my GP done the right thing by referring me to a paediatrician?

  • Hello

My 6 Yr old has 2 swollen lymph nodes in his neck since end of November. I kept getting told viral infection. They're reactive lymph nodes. I couldn't let it go... In January they were still there so he had a Blood test. Came back with high count of white blood cells. Dr wasn't worried he had to have another blood test 2 weeks later. Bloods came back normal.

I then pushed for a GP to see these in person. He referred my son for a ultrasound. The results came back benign reactive lymph nodes and nothing to worry about. Apparently these happen more then we realise.

Sorry its not quite the same. My son didn't have them in his belly. Hope your little one is OK x

Ps. They're still swollen now. 4 months and could eventually go down or stay like this. They couldn't say.
