MRI then CT- no results?

Hi all. I feel like im being a total drama queen but wonder if anyone has any experience. I was sent for an MRI scan as had a couple of weird vertigo episodes and on off migranes but really not that big of a deal. Had the MRI scan 4 weeks ago, heard nothing so assumed all fine. Today had a letter for CT scan so a bit worried, rang the GP they have no results or referral letters. Is it likely to just be different departments not talking? Google has told me that an MRI would normally follow a CT scan as MRI scans are more detailed so not sure why that way round?

  • Hello Peakdistrictmum

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some health concerns at the moment.

CT scans and MRI scans look at things in slightly different ways and give slightly different information to the clinicians. I don't think there's any hard and fast rule about which one happens first; it can vary depending on what the referring Dr is looking for.

I'm unsure from your post if it was the GP who requested the original MRI or if you've seen Consultant. If you've still had no answers and the GP has had no information then maybe give the MRI department a call and ask for someone to explain. If you have seen a Consultant then you could give their secretary a call.

It's obviously a worrying time for you and I do hope that you have some answers and reassurance soon.

    Best wishes,
