Bone cyst or sclerotic lesion found on right hip

I have been struggling with hip pain on and off for atleast 3 years.I went to GP many times but they didn't take it seriously. In December I even told the GP that I have pain in my right hip. Then she asked me to go for an X-Ray in January. On the X-Ray they found that there is a bone cyst /sclerotic lesion on my greater trochanter with the size of 25mm X17mm. Then I was referred for a MRI scan. I did MRI scan almost 2 weeks ago. MDT have already discussed my results and they told the consultant's secretary to book an appointment in 4-6 weeks time.I am going to have a telephone consultation in 4 weeks time since MRI. GP can't do anything and didn't receive any updates about MRI results. Why do I have to wait again 4 weeks? I am worried that anything can get worse within this period. Could it be bone cancer?Apart from hip pain, I feel sometimes right leg and right foot pain. I am healthy otherwise so I don't think so this is a secondary bone cancer.

  • Hello Bigben

I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing health problem that you've been dealing with. It's obviously been a difficult time for you and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious about the results of your recent MRI.

I know that many people will empathise with how difficult this period of waiting can be. It may be worth speaking to the Consultant's secretary and asking if they hold a cancellation list if you're available to speak to the Consultant at short notice. It may be that the Consultant doesn't hold weekly clinics or is perhaps on leave which means clinic availability is reduced. Obviously, that doesn't help your anxiety levels in the meantime and I wonder if you might find it helpful to have a chat with one of our team of nurses. They may be able to give you some support and information and help you think about any questions that you may want to ask the Consultant at your appointment.

If you would like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
