Hi everyone,
This is my first post here and I'm quite nervous. I recently had an abnormal smear that showed I have the HPV virus and I've just had another test done by my practice nurse. I've to await the results but have been told to expect a colposcopy should the results remain as before.
I am 25 years old, no children and I work in a hospital as a nursing assistant. I see death every day and I am used to comforting people as they reach the end of their lives but it's hit me today that I could be getting some really bad news.
I had a copper IUD which I believed to be causing me intense pelvic pain and abnormal bleeding but I got this removed in November and the symptoms are still there. I'd say the abnormal bleeding isn't quite so bad but the pelvic pain comes and goes at least once per day and I get spotting for a good week or so after my period ends despite being on the combined pill.
You'd think my experience working in hospital would put my mind at ease but the thought of a colposcopy and the impending results of the smear have me in a real worry. Any advice, similar stories etc would be greatly appreciated?
Thank you so much in advance to anyone who gets a chance to reply and I hope you are all keeping well and safe during these awful times.
x
