Waiting for biopsy results

Two weeks ago I was admitted to hospital with abdominal pains. I thought may of been trapped wind but CT scan shown a large mass of 12cm on my ovary. They gave me an emergency operation.

They first went in with key hole but the mass was too big so ended up with a c section style operation. They removed my left ovary and tube.

Additionally, the surgeon did key hole on the right side and took biopsy from bowels. He advised he had sent the tube and bowel biopsy because the cyst was lumpy, not clear and also leaking.

They took my c125 blood two days after op and they was within the normal ranges. I was told biopsy results would be back within ten days but still not yet heard of anything.

Has anyone had a similar experience. Would a surgeon take a biopsy of the bowels unless he suspects cancer is present or was it due to covering all bases for 'just in case' moments?

  • Hello Littlelisa

I'm sorry to hear about all that you've been dealing with the past few weeks. I hope that you're recovering well from the surgery.

It's not uncommon for biopsies to be taken if an abnormal area is found however, this does not automatically mean there will be cancer. As you've said it's important that things are checked "just in case".

It's good to hear that your CA125 results didn't give any immediate cause for concern and hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer to hear from the Consultant.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
