cervical erosion

Hey guys..

I recently was referred by my GP to see a gyno as i was complaining of pelvic pain just before and after my period, she did a pelvic examination and saw a slightly red area on the left side of my cervix. I decided to go private and see a consultant as it was quicker and i was reaaaally anxious! I went to my appointment yesterday and after he did an examination he confirmed it was just cervical erosion and that it was absolutely nothing to worry about. As i'm only 24 i haven't yet had my smear and i was hoping he'd do one for me, but he said there was no need as my cervix was fine and he wasn't concerned at all. I've been on the pill for 8 years so he said this is really common.. I've been referred to have a laporoscopy for suspected endometriosis..

After i had my pelvic examination i've woke up today with slightly off coloured discharge and there was the tiniest spec of brown. Should i be concerned and push back for a smear? or am i just worrying too much as i know he's a gyno so he knows what to look for! i'm assuming maybe the cervical erosion is causing the weird discharge, especially as i was examined last night..

Please help x

  • Hi, I'm currently going through something similar. I had my first smear in December which came back clear, however I'd been suffering with pelvic pain and discharge so went back to GP. Was told I had cervical erosion but was referred to gynaecologist just to be safe. I had colposcopy and biopsy and was called yesterday and they said they couldn't give my result over the phone and need to go into see the doctor next week, definitely feeling nervous as I'm guessing it's some kind of bad news. If you have symptoms definitely push for a referral! Xx

  • Hey! yeah the waiting for it all is definitely terrible. I'm assuming you're only 25 if you've just had your first smear? it was actually a gynaecologist who told me it was cervical erosion so that's why i felt more relieved in the moment, as their more experienced in that department! but i've worked up today feeling very nervous again as i'm wondering why he didn't just do the smear yesterday? he said it was because he wasn't concerned at all but now i'm feeling more concerned!

I'm sure your biopsy has come back completely fine! cervical erosion can cause discharge, and i have read they can't give results over the phone regardless of the result so try to stay calm! did they sound concerned ?

    Thanks for replying! x

  • I'm 25 in a few weeks I had my smear at 24 and a half :)  Yeah I don't understand why he didn't just do it then cause it only takes a second, it's hard because everyone's experiences seem so different, my gynaecologist didn't seem concerned at all until I had the colposcopy and it hilighted abnormalities and then he seemed less positive and didn't really say much, but I was told I'd receive results in the post and I just had that phone call instead which was abit weird but just trying to stay positive. Things are so slow at the moment because of COVID so if your concerned I'd definitely contact your gp again x
