Swollen nodes in neck

Hi, I'm new to this forum, I am running out of options and my mind is racing. Hopefully someone will be able to put my mind at ease as the doctors aren't taking me seriously.

It started in June 2020, I had this very random groin pain that would only hurt when going from a seated position to a standing one. Didn't think anything of it... Until it started happening every day no matter how much I rest. Its still there to this day, and its causing a serious problem while carrying my son. Since then I have lost 6kg in weight, having terrible night sweats to the point I've to wake up and change my t-shirt, and when I go to put it into the wash the next day its still wet!. I've never been one to sweat at all, so this is very unusual for me. 6 weeks ago the right side of my neck/thyroid area swelled up. I've been to my gp, my white blood cell count is raised, and I've had an ultrasound done. The node is 1.5cm but they won't do a biopsie as it looks normal. I don't believe in coincidences but I am not been taken seriously! I've an 18 month old who is getting more sleep then me these days thanks to the sweats! I'm just looking for some direction and help! I'm at my wits end with this. I was referred to an ENT who wants to wait 9 months to see if the biggest node gets bigger( I have 3 swollen on the right side altogether) ?!? Am I the only one that thinks that that is too long to wait?? Should I push for a biopsie?

  • Hi Coco,

So sorry you're going through this. I've just been referred by my GP to an ENT too. I have an enlarged lymph node which looked abnormal when they did an ultrasound. My white bloods were low but have since bounced up. No other symptoms other than an occasional ache.

It does seem like a long time.

Did you see the ENT in person? Or are you on hold for 9 months until they see you?

    Hope you're okay.

  • Hi G, thank you for replying. I seen them in person. He didn't even want to discuss my other symptoms, just said come back in 9 months time to see if it's grown, then he'll do something for me. Seems like a very long time to wait... Its driving me crazy with worry. And like I said, I don't sweat at all! So the night sweats are very bothersome. I haven't been in anyway ill or sick since 2019.. So I kmow its not "viral" or an infection.... I just want to get to the bottom of it. Hope your ENT referral comes back quickly so you don't have to wait to long. Waiting is the worst!

  • Yeah, that is long if they've seen you in person. I'm 47, so I think if I had night sweats they might just think I'd started the menopause! Can you go back to your GP and impress on them that your syptoms haven't stopped? I know other people on here has suggested keeping a symtoms diary, so they can log how they feel so they can see if there are any patterns/or use it to show your doctor.

GP said the fast track means I should get seen within 2 weeks. It feels like an age because I feel like I'm holding my breath until I get all the all clear, but I've read about so many people waiting so long I'm glad my doc has been so proactive. Just hope the ENT doesn't ask me wait and see too. I'd rather they just did a biopsy and told me there and then!!
