Squamous cell carcinoma or Melanoma

Sorry just in two days i still have been waiting the weeks for results and no idea how I'm meant to wait that. I never thought skin cancer was bad. I went to have a Basel cell carcinoma seen to. Which when my dermatologist so weird then inspected the rest of my face. We're I had a cat that never seem to heal and from me picking you've got bigger and bigger 3 centimetres by 2 centimetres my scar which turns out to be either an ACC or a melanoma. After seeing him 5 Days Later and I'm getting the BCC removed and a biopsy done. It wasn't until I went to get my stitches removed 10 days later and my GP was shocked that the results went in there then started panicking. Maybe I'm a bit naive but I was thought skin cancer wasn't it serious since then I've done the worst thing and turned to Google as not much on skin cancer. Is there anyone on this forum they can possibly tell me me how long they've had to wait for about see and put my mind to ease. As last year I lost 3 family members to cancer and all of them were diagnosed  and within a few months died, I do not want to be follow in their footsteps.

  • Hi Amy,

I'm sorry you are still waiting for your results, however, they are tending to average a few weeks to return during Covid. Even pre Covid they take about 3 weeks to come back.

Skin cancer sadly is not taken seriously until it enters your life. Basal cell and Squamous Cell are non melanoma cancers. They are more easily treatable - BCC don't spread internally whilst SCC tend not to spread internally unless they have been left a long time without treatment. Melanoma, however, has the ability to spread internally if not caught early and therefore is harder to treat. Hopefully yours will come back benign or be a non melanoma cancer.

Can I suggest that, if you haven't received your results back after 4 weeks that you contact the hospital or your GP to see what the position is. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

  • Hi Angie, thanks for replying. Yeah 9 Days and will be 4 weeks hopefully that then I've heard what it is that I have. I know the BCC wasn't anything serious other than the scar as isn't the neatest. However the other one 1A my forehead I've heard for at least two years that I know of as I never thought it was anything to be concerned about. I do have a complex about it as the score has gotten bigger and I have nothing's come to see that the tissue has lost its feeling as well as it is growing inwards which I thought was from you keep picking it. I think it scares me as to where it is is as not only is it going to leave a messy scar but there's not much skin. I do feel a lot better I think I'm falling you on one of your posts because I see that you recovered from it so at least I feel a lot better knowing that it's not a death sentence as such. Sorry I think I'm just over paranoid as well well due to how quickly I lost my family members when they were diagnosed. Do you have any suggestions on what I can put on it so that it doesn't continue to look so nasty.

Sorry about the spelling and grammar mistakes I'm using Google Speech due to my anxiety it's hard for me to type.

  • HI Amy,

I wouldn't put anything on it in case you make it worse or infected. I know it's hard when it's on your face but you need to leave it to heal on it's own. If it starts to look red, sore or hot contact your GP in case it's infected. Numbness can sometimes occur around a surgical wound - the feeling should start to come back in time. I hope you aren't waiting too much longer & the results bring you good news,

    Angie
