Breast biopsy

Hi I’m just looking for some advice please. I recently had a breast biopsy on a mark that’s appeared on my breast (it’s slightly raised and indented at the same time) , the results came back fine (just some inflammation nothing to worry about)however I can’t hlep notice and worry that the mark of where the needle was used to take the tissue is actually above of the mark I’m worried about not directly on it.  Is this normal? Or could they have taken a sample from the wrong area? Or it it normal for them to cut above and then they manoeuvre the needle when in the tissue? Maybe this sounds daft but I think I’ve got myself into such a panic and just want to be sure all is ok! And the mark is tricky if see not in certain light. Any advice would be really appreciated!

  • Hi Soph19,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's highly unlikely they'd have taken a sample from the wrong area - it may be that they went above and down into the area rather than directly into the top of it, so as not to cause damage or pain.

However if you'd like reassurance from someone who is more medically-minded, you can speak to one of our nurses - either by posting in the 'Ask the nurses' section of this forum, or by calling 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,
