Im worried if I might have breast cancer

Hi,
Im 17, I lost weight last month, around 5 kg, my weight always ranged from 67kg to 70kg and now ranges from 64kg to 66kg. I didn't do have any diet or exercise for weight loss, but I know that I wasn't eating well for example I excluded milk, any meat or chicken as I hate it and I always had egg, rice and piadina (italian flatbread) for my lunch and dinner, so I thought that my weight may have changed for this, but even that I googled the reasons for sudden unexplained weight loss and found that it could be a symptom for cancer and now I'm also feeling a lump in my right breast above the nipple from last week. (My period always starts on 26th or 27th, so this month its going to start around that date, idk I think the lump may be appeared as a symptom for the periods but as it appeared 2 weeks before the periods scares me a lot and also with that weight loss I mentioned before). I didn't book an appointment yet as the GP are closed now so I think I'm going to book an appointment next Monday.. I'm so worried

  • Hey hun,

First up, calm down, and stop googling your symptoms! Trust me. I can't think of a single symptom that can't end up on some dark path. Let your mind take a break and save the googling for finding a decent show to watch on Netflix instead!

Weight fluctuations at your age are perfectly normal. I'm 26, but I remember how up and down my weight could be, so frustrating! Maybe keep an eye on it, but try not to worry too much. There's a crazy amount of things going on in our bodies at that age which can cause that.

Around your age, hormonal lumps are very common. These typically are just cysts. I had one this year on my breast, and the doctor asked me to wait until I had my next period to be seen to see if it was just a hormone lump.

Whilst I understand entirelywhy you're worried, try to remain calm. Keep a diary of any symptoms, so if they persist, you have a record, but also remember that right now your body is still going through a lot of changes.

Let me know how things go xx

  • Hey,

thank you so much for replying,

yh I stopped googling, ty, your reply just reassured me, as you said I will wait till my periods end up to see if the lump goes aways. Do you know how many days after the end of the periods the lump usually goes aways?

I also feel like my breast (the one where I feel the lump) swells sometimes and it hurts to touch but it is not that painful, is it normal? and that I feel it all just in one of the breasts?
