Lump in breast, worried!

Hello,

One week ago I had a quick sharp pain go into my nipple(the pierced one). It's not the first time that had happened but it did seem stronger. I just put it down to the fact it's my pierced nipple. (Pierced in august last year). Anyway, I put my hand up to it and pushed it, that's when I felt a very small pea size hardish lump deep down behind the areola. This day was the last day of my period, so I didn't think much of it and thought maybe that's why. Kept an eye on it over the week, and asked my partner too aswell, both is us agree it has risen to the surface of the areola, right next to the ball of the nipple bar, still feels pea sized, doesn't hurt, think it's smooth, unsure if it moves but I'm pretty sure it feels hard. I called the doctors yesterday to book an appointment and have a phone appointment next Friday, but was told by the receptionist if any changes within the week to call up sooner. I wasn't feeling overly worried by it to start with but I done a little Googling and have made myself worry about breast cancer! I'm 30 with 3 children under the age of 8, I'm due to get married in September and I'm worried that something sinister is coming my way!! Don't think I could cope. Just wondered if anybody had anything similar and it was totally normal or not. Thankyou to anyone that reads this.

  • I agree! I have to wait for a phone call from the breast clinic then wait for the appointment date too, I'm not sure how long that's going to take though.

  • When I spoke them I just asked if there was any sooner appointments and they changed mine from a Saturday to the Friday. They did say to me on the phone they wanted me to be seen in within 2 weeks which I think is standard practice. I think the wait just feels longer than it is.

  • Even though we know it's standard, we still worry that it's been put down as urgent, when I went 4 years ago for my other breast I don't remember the whole 2ww referral or anything, I think I was just in a state of panic the whole time because I was convinced I had cancer. I been don't get me wrong I am worried now but I feel less anxious this time, but then I worry that this will be the sinister issue and I haven't worried enough of that makes sense. Not long for you to wait now! I will be thinking of you!

  • [@rmscj]‍ hi hun, how did you get on? Hope u are ok!! X

  • Hi, thank you for the message. I did get good news.

I went in and saw a Dr first who did an examination and all he basically said was it didn't feel like an abscess. He said I'd have an ultrasound and they could tell me there and then what it is but that I may have to have a biopsy. He said not to worry if it is a biopsy as that doesn't always mean something bad. I had the ultrasound and the lady said it looked benign. She said it was something called a lactational adenoma. She said they would recommend a biopsy just to make sure but that it looked benign. She suggested to have it either today or 6 weeks after I had stopped breastfeeding/ pumping. I asked if I could have the biopsy later, she checked with the Dr and they said it's fine. Aparently if I had it today it can cause bleeding/ discomfort so they said it's fine to wait. They discussed it with me and were reassuring. So I have to go back go a biopsy at a later date. They said any issues contact my GP. So overall good. Eww for now. They did keep using the word benign so that reassured me. They were all very helpful and informative. I'm sure I'll worry when I have to go back but for now it's removed a lot of stress.

Let me know how you get on and hopefully it's all good.

  • Oh honestly I am so happy for you and I am glad that it has reassured you!!! It's always good to have positive stories put on this forum too, there is a lot of ladies out there who are worrying about the same sort of thing, and lots of people worrying about cancer In general, and always looking out for positive posts while waiting for appointments! Fingers crossed I can update and put some good news on here too! Xx

  • Hi, how did you get on with your appointments I'm guessing you have had them now? Hope all is well.

  • Hi [@rmscj]‍

yes I had my appointment about 2 weeks ago, I had an ultrasound only but 2 ladies look over the image on the screen and it turns out to be glandular tissue and no further investigation! So thankfully it was all good and I walked Out Tod there with no other worries! Thankyou for asking.

    how are you? X

  • That's amazing news.

I went in for a biopsy which wasn't as bad as it sounded. They did say my lump was moving which was a good sign. I get my results tomorrow. They said it'd be by phone but they asked me today to go in tomorrow for the results. Hoping it's not bad news but not feeling as stressed now as I was initially. I was told I might have to have a face to face appointment if they needed to remove the lump so I'm hoping that's why they want to see me.

  • Thankyou!

Good luck today!! Please come back and let us know your results. Sending positive thoughts your way x
