Low Grade Dyskaryosis to CIN 3

Back in Oct 2020 I had a smear which found High Risk HPV with Low Grade Dyskaryosis. The low grade Dyskaryosis didn't bother me too much.

I had a colposcopy in January which I have just received the results for. I have CIN3 and I'm having a LLETZ in May. My worry is that I've gone from Low Grade cell changes to CIN3 from October 2020 to January 2021. Is this normal? Can it change that quick? I'm worried about what they may find in May if it changes that quickly!!

Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Hi Kit

It’s not necessarily the case that things have progressed quickly..you may have had the CIN3 for longer and it wasn’t picked up from your smear. The smear is not an infallible test and it can’t pick up everything...sometimes you can have CIN at different levels on your cervix and higher up in the cervical canal. So it’s possible to have, for example, an area of CIN1 and an area of CIN3 and depending on where the smear is done, it might not all be picked up. It seems a long time to wait, but typically things are slow to progress.

  • Hi Minska

thanks for your reply. I'm seeing the wait as they're not too rushed to do anything so that's a good thing???

you're right of course about the findings, and part of me is being very pragmatic about the whole thing, but I have a very small part of me that is going into full blown panic mode!!
