Referred to breast clinic with a lump

Hi all. I am currently waiting to attend my appointment at the hospital breast clinic next Friday. I found a large lump in my breast a few months ago. I had a baby in December so there was an assumption it was a blocked milk duct. I went to the GP after the massage techniques the health visitor gave me didn't do anything.
I saw a GP who examined me and gave me antibiotics and said the lump moved which was good. I was advised to return a few weeks later. I went again and saw another GP who said it could be a blocked milk duct but that he wasn't satisfied it was.
I've been really worried now about the referral. My mum has had breast cancer twice in both sides so that's in my mind a lot at the moment.

  • Hello Rmscj

I'm sorry to hear about the concerns over this breast lump that you've had. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things especially as your Mum has had breast cancer herself.

It can help to keep in mind that the majority of women who attend breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer. This lump could still be connected to your pregnancy so try to stay positive about things.

It can certainly help to talk and I'd suggest giving our team of nurses a call ahead of your appointment next week. I'm sure they will be able to give you some advice and support. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on next week,

    Best wishes,
