Worried about bowel cancer

I'm 16, turning 17 in April and ever since around Christmas 2020 I've been wiping blood when I go to the toilet. I never thought anything of it until the last 2 weeks in which it has got a lot worse and I am passing a lot of blood when I go to the toilet. It got so bad I rung 111 on an afternoon and explained what has  been happening and the lady on the other end said I should be seen by a doctor in the next 6 hours, so I went up to A&E shorty after.
I saw a doctor that night and examined me and didn't see any obvious signs of piles or anything like that and ordered an urgent colonoscopy. I know it might sound stupid as I am 16 and people my age don't tend to get bowel cancer but I'm still worried that it can be worse case scenario

  • Hey, I can understand that you must be so worried right now but you have done the right thing and got help. Statistics are very much in your favour and there could be many reasons. Who is supporting you whilst you wait? Don't be afraid to call Macmillan helpline and tell them how you feel. I find it helps to go out for walks in nature and really take a close look at flowers or bugs, bark on trees or animal tracks to distract my anxious mind, or big open views where I take big deep breaths. Sending you big hugs.
