Dermoid Cyst - on urgent list but been waiting 5 months

Can I travel abroad for surgery? Or should I? I've been diagnosed with suspected ovarian cancer back in November after several ultrasounds and an MRI i've been told that I have a dermoid cyst with a low chance that it is cancerous. There are major delays with my surgery. I am on an urgent list but I've been waiting five months now what do I do? Should I be worried that there is a low chance of cancer low to me is scary? I found out my grandmother died of cancer the same age as what I am now. She was riddled.

  • Hello Cancerscared

I'm sorry to hear about all that you're dealing with at the moment. It sounds like it's a very difficult time for you and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious and scared about things.

You can find information about travelling abroad on the government website here but I would encourage you to speak to your Consultant again to raise your concerns with them. Alternatively, you could speak to your local PALS office about the delays you're experiencing and see if they are able to offer some support.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you're most welcome to give them a call. I'm sure they will help with any information and advice that they can. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you have a date for your surgery soon.

    Best wishes,
