Post menopause bleeding

Hi, a friend directed me to this forum as I'm becoming increasingly concerned.

I'm 57, 6 years post menopause however in the last 4 years have suffered with episodes of very heavy bleeding. Last episode before this one, lasted 7 weeks, (Dec 2020) my GP referred me to gynea and arranged a scan. I was prescribed a hormone to stop the bleeding which thankfully worked after 6 days.

Scan showed lining to be 3mm. I had a telephone consultation in January which I found quite frustrating. Was told that it's unlikely my bleeding was due to pathological reasons. To continue or not with my hrt and review in 3 months. The appointment I received is actually 4.5 months after consultation..

I am now bleeding heavily again, 10 days do far and due at my GPs for blood tests on friday

Given this has gone on for nearly 4 years, and reading the previous blogs I'm more than concerned..

Or should I be,? surely my doctor should be concerned.

Any advice would be appreciated

  • Hi Jojo63,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this must be unsettling and it's good to hear you have an appointment booked in with your GP. They will be best placed to advise, so do be clear with them about your symptoms, any changes, and your concerns so that you can get some answers and any next steps.

If at any point you feel you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

Wishing you all the best and I hope your appointment this week goes well,

    Ben

  • Hello, i am 57 and i had post menopausal bleeding at the beginning of last year. My G/p sent me for scans which seemed fine, but she also said i must be fast tracked for uterine biopsy at it was necessary at my age,and also the protocol for women bleeding post menopause. i was found to have a polyps which were benign and removed during the procedure, the biopsy and polyps were thankfully benign. I started bleeding again that october but only recently informed my G/p as the cramping/ blood loss was becoming an every day occurrance, she has again sent me last week for scans and next week i have another hysterosopy and biopsy planned. If i were you i would be phoning your g/p and they should automatically refer you on the 2 week fast track. Hope things improve for you soon. i have an anxious wait to find out if all is well with me, the consultant i saw last week says i have a one in ten chance of a cancer diagnosis.
