Ectropian, cysts and symptoms

Hi guys,

I am up to date with my smears and never had a problem.  I went to the doctors a month ago with side pain and an increased urge to urinate,  she wanted to do a dip test for my urine, it came back with traces of blood in my urine.  She sent sample away to test for infections and none were found. GP did a urgent referral to urology, which I've been told can take up to 6 months .
one week after that appointment I had a big vaginal bleed (I do not get periods as I have the coil which prevents bleeding, I haven't once bleed since having the coil over 10 years ago).  The doctor asked to see me and did an internal examination, she found ectropian which had never been detected before on any of my smears (I am aged 40) and cervical cysts, she also said she could see blood coming from higher up the cervix.  Since then I've had brown stringy discharge.  I was refered to gynaecology again with a waiting list of 6 months.  I decided to pay privately to see a gynaecology just for peace of mind, I am seeing the private dr in 2 weeks.

is it possible a smear test could have been wrong (2 years ago), can you suddenly have ovarian cysts and ectropian at my age of 40? I've had two children over 14 years ago and was no mention of it then? And why the hell should people in this position have to wait 6 months to be seen.

Any help and advice much needed.
