Waiting for breast clinic appointment

Hi, can anyone point me to any online links regarding timeframes to get appointments please? I found a lump on the top of my breast near my armpit yesterday, I spoke to my GP today who said I would get a phone call today confirming a breast clinic appointment. No phone call, so do I ring the gp surgery back tomorrow? I don’t want to be one of those patients who’s always complaining when the NHS is under such a huge strain, but I don’t want to get forgotten either. Lost my mum 3 years ago to lymphoma (I’m adopted so no genetic link, but it’s an effort to stop my brain going down some pretty dark paths) but that was such a late diagnosis and very different circumstances that I’ve no idea what to expect myself. Thank you, and wishing each and everyone of you strength in your journeys.

  • Hey,

Sorry to hear you've found a lump.
I can't speak exactly on breast clinic timelines but I am in the process of having my own lump examined elsewhere.
My GP said she'd book me in for a scan and 2 days later I received a letter with my appointment date on for the following week.
Seems odd they'd have specified a call though if that was the case for the breast clinic too but you never know a letter may be on its way.

Sorry I can't be more help! I hope you get an appointment soon.

  • Thank you, I'm calling the doctors surgery back to double check I've been referred. The doctor I spoke said she would give my referral appointment details during our phone call, but the computer system wasn't linking up so she said one of the surgery admin team would phone me back to confirm.
update: I have been referred but there are no appointments available, but I will be seen within two weeks and could get a phone call anytime.

  • I saw a gp on Thursday and still waiting to recieve an appointment for the breast clinic. The wait is so frustrating, I ended up emailing the breast clinic directly this morning, and my surgery to find out if I have a date yet on the system as there are probably still delays with the post (my local hospital sends all appointments out by letter). I think just having an appointment date will help in itself; something to work towards, rather than staring down into the abyss!
