potential testicular cancer looking for advice

Hello im mick im 29 i had noticed a lump in my right testicle and i went to the doctor and he didn't think it was anything serious but gave me
an antibiotic which i took it had no effect and i was still worried , i was also experiencing dull ache in my groin and sometimes
small pain in my back. I then went to the doctor again and requested an ultrasound , and after two weeks of waiting i was in for one, the person who done the ultrasound didnt mention anything just said i would hear from my doctor within a week. Then the following day i got a call off my GP doctor asking did i hear from the hospital? i was really concfused and said no and he said a doctor from the hospital tried to contact him and said they will contact you soon as it seems serious they found some swelling. It had been three days from that call and the hospital rang me and asked me to come in on wednesday which was two days later. I then met my Doctor  who was lovely talked me through alot and suggested based on what the ultrasound is showing and after a physical exam it could be cancer, she also suggested it could be a very bad infection but that wasn.t likely so she said i know this isnt the news you were excpecting but id like to admit you today and have an operation called an orchidectomy which she explained what it was,. I was shocked and said ok i was in for three days had my operation on friday the 12th and was home by saturday the 13th, they removed the testicle and replaced with a prostehtic, i also had a chest xray which came back clear and my bloods had no tumour markers which are good signs, i am now at home recovering awaiting a follow up appointment on the biopsy of the infected testicle and a ct scan i mean at this point im sure its cancer i just wonder will i have to do chemotherapy or anything like that my doctor has been great and i felt safe at the hospital feeling more anxious being home how ironic i know any information i would really appreciate thank you.

  • Hello Mick

I'm sorry to hear about all that you've been through over the past few weeks. It sounds like it's been a real whirlwind for you and I hope that you're recovering well after your surgery.

The treatment for testicular cancer can sometimes include chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy but it's dependant on the stage and type. I've linked some information here for you to have a look at but I'm sure once the results are back with the Consultant, they will be able to explain what, if any, treatment or monitoring they would advise.

In the meantime, I'd encourage you to give our team of nurses a call. It can certainly help to talk things through with someone and I'm sure they would be able to give you some information, advice, and support ahead of your next appointment. If you'd like to chat with them, they're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch Mick and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
