Hello,
Firstly, I'm a 23 year old female who is otherwise healthy. A couple of weeks ago I felt a small grape-sized lump behind my nipple in my areola. It isn't painful and feels relatively hard. At times, the skin of my areola feels quite thickened and puckers(?) quite a lot. I can only feel the lump when I gently pinch my areola.
Today I had an appointment with my GP who said that she can't feel a lump and that I should only consider something a lump if I can feel it the 'proper' way of checking breasts (e.g. pressing with three fingers) rather than gently pinching the skin that caused me to find the lump in the first place. As she didn't pinch my areola like I had done, she couldn't find any lumps and sent me away saying it was nothing to worry about. To me, this doesn't seem right.. surely a lump is a lump?! It is definitely not normal for my breast and is significantly different to the other breast. I'm not really sure what my next step should be as I know I'm going to continue panicking until it goes or I get the all clear.
Thanks in advance,
Lou :)
