Breast Clinic

Hello,

An out of hours GP confirmed that there's a lump in my left breast. I'm going to call my GP tomorrow and ask them for the referral.

I'm 26 years old and suffer from anxiety. I haven't been able to keep a positive mind.

Any ideas how long it may take for the breast clinic to see me? Also the GP didn't say much on what the lump might, just that there's 'something' there.

Am I overreacting?

  • Hi there

It's alway worrying when we find something wrong with our health so understandable that you'll be anxious. Good that you're going to see your GP who'll also examine and refer to breast clinic. The breast clinic is great and has all the technology to find out what's going on with your breast. It could simply something like a cyst or fibroid issue so try not to jump straight to cancer as it's rare to have breast cancer at your age

A breast clinic referral can take several weeks to months. Try not to worry too much. Keep in touch and hope everything turns out fine x

  • Hey!

I thought I would reply because I'm 26 too, and I had just had my breast clinic appointment last Friday.

I was referred around the 26th of February. My doctor told me that they typically see patients within two weeks of being referred. This is the same for urgent and non-urgent cases. They don't want you to be anxious, so they try to see you quickly.

A side note, it is very uncommon in people our age so try not to worry too much. I panicked a fair bit because I was expecting them to say it was nothing and not even refer me, but I know they are just doing their due diligence.

    Best of luck! X

  • Thank you for your response!

I hope so too! I've been trying to research cysts and other possibilities. I didn't realise how little I knew about my own boobs

  • Thank you! You've definitely eased my mind.

If you don't mind me asking, did everything turn out well at your appointment?

    I hope you are well
