Dad may have lung cancer

Hi, I'm hoping someone can give me an idea of what to expect.

In the past 3 weeks my Dad has developed a very swollen neck and extreme fatigue. GP sent him for an urgent chest x-ray last Tuesday. From that he was told the same day they have seen what looks like lung cancer. He was sent for a ct with contrast last Wednesday and told he'd be contacted the next couple of days with a result.

Didn't hear anything Thursday or Friday and then of course it's been weekend. Should we expect to hear some results tomorrow? Should we be chasing them tomorrow for results and a plan? We called the consultants secretary on Friday and she said due to covid the respiratory consultant is very busy and hasn't reviewed the scan yet.

On Friday he developed unexplained bruising on his chest and suddenly struggling to breath lay down so he went back to GP and we had to suggest taking bloods which was done. GP said the chest x-ray showed enlarged nodes in between his lungs which suggest cancer but she hasn't had ct results yet.

It all just feels like nobody is in a rush and of course if it is cancer we want to know asap so we know of it's treatable.

Are we being a bit unreasonable with times or should we be pestering them to get in touch? It just feels quite unfair to say "yes it looks like cancer but nobody has looked at your scan for 4 days since it was done".

Any advice welcome!

X

  • Hi, My mum went to the Doctors 3 weeks ago today, she had the chest X-ray the following Tuesday, and we got the results that the chest x-ray was abnormal the following monday. She had a CT on Saturday just gone and this morning they rang to say the consultant would be ringing her this afternoon. I would press them for the results of the scan xx
