Itchy nipple

Mar 2021 08:55

Hi my left nipple has been itching on and off for about 6 months but there is no change in appearance no change in anything really. If I take my bra off it can stop or if I take off anything that I'm wearing it can stop same as of I put some moisturiser on it will stop for a while, even just changing position can stop the itch . Then it will be fine for a few weeks. Usually gets worse around my period. Other parts of my breasts can itch too so it's not always my nipple and can also happen on the  right but not as bad. The skin maybe looks slightly dry underneath my nipple area but it is dry ever so slightly dry and covers most of the underneath of my breast not my nipple or a localised area, not scaley or crusty maybe just the odd fleks of dry skin. no rash or discharge. It just concerned me how I can be fine for weeks so I actually forget about it, then it suddenly comes back. I have a Dr appointment tomorrow but I'm so scared

  • Hi! Good luck with your appointment today.

Please let me know how you get on. I’ve been presenting similar symptoms since January (waves of itching that come and go), which steroid cream helped with initially but when I stop using the steroid cream, the itching comes back.

  • Hi guys. I have had itchy nipples and aerola for 11 years. I initially went to drs thinking I might have pagets disease which is an inflammatory breast cancer but the doctor reckon its ezcema and prescribed steroid creams. It comes and goes and I noticed it itch like crazy near my period or ovulation so could  be hormone related. What I find help me was using aveeno cream as I don't know the long term effects of steroids cream on your breast.  Its always good to check but alot of the time it's just excema

  • Thank you I have been and bought some aveeno today to see if that will help me while I wait to find out what it is. I'm greatful for your reply x

  • Just wanted to update.

I have just been seen at the breast clinic and my nipple looks fine no rash etc and they suspect it is related to my hormones so I have been advised to keep them moisturised but they are happy that it isn't anything untoward.

Want to thank you all for your replies and to wish you all the very best xx
