I didn’t notice the signs.... possibly Melanoma

Hey all

i have my first dermatology appointment on Tuesday

I'm surprised that I ignored the growth on my leg!! It's not the type of cancer (if it is!) that gets much coverage

so besides the obvious growing changing thing on my leg, is there any other symptoms your body goes through that you may notice?

Many thanks

Beebie

  • Hi Beebie,

If you are worrying that it may be melanoma then no, there are no other symptoms other than the dodgy looking mole or lesion. If you are suffering any symptoms ie. headaches, fatigue etc, it's more likely due to the stress of now being in the 'system' and waiting to be seen.

I'm assuming that your GP has referred you to dermatology? This is good because it's getting looked at by an expert - it doesn't necessarily mean it's melanoma though. Moles can change or new moles can appear at any time (more worrying after we turn 40) - most are benign, a few are melanoma and a few are dysplastic (atypical) moles - these are benign but can turn cancerous in the future so they always remove them.

Good luck with your appointment and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient)

  • thank you so much for your reply - thankfully it was nothing to worry about and a course of steroid cream for two weeks removed the lesion :)

all the best to you too!

  • That's great to hear. Thanks so much for coming back to update us so that others going through the same anxiety can see that it's not always bad news. Take care,
