Liver masses found - could be benign or cancerous, v.scared

I have ulcerative colitis and have been feeling grim for the past 6 months. Earlier this week I went for an MRCP to rule out PSC as my ALP (one of my liver function tests) has been high. They found several 'masses' on my liver. I have been told that these could be benign or cancerous but are suggestive of metasteses. I have a CT scan next Friday and am waiting for an MRI appointment. All the reading I have done (which is a lot!) suggests that I have stage 4 cancer. I am absolutely terrified. I am 39, have young children and although I haven't been feeling great, I am floored by this. Has anybody been/is going through similar? How do you manage to move through life and do your job with this hanging over you?

  • Hello and welcome to our friendly forum.  You can't diagnose yourself via Google and staging of cancer is a very in depth medical procedure to go through.  My husband had multiple scans, x Ray, biopsies befure his stage 4 diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer and a year ago he had liver mets as well but the immunotherapy has kept them from growing further and he is 75 years old, so you have youth and time on your side.  I know it's hard having to wait and to think the worst but to convince yourself that it's the worst case possible will not help at all.  Stay away from googje and trust that everything will be done to help you get through all of this.  I understand how awful it all is but I have learned that all the worry, the sleepless nights the brain going into overdrive help not one bit as the end result will be the same however much you fret and scare yourself.  Please come back and let us know how it all goes and everyone on here is helpful and kind and will help you the best they can.  Best wishes, Carol x
