Trying to stay positive

Hi all.

My story started in November 2019 when I got diagnosed with a 7cm dermoid. It was found during a transvaginal scan I was having due to constant menstration. I was referred and saw a consultant in Jan 2020, removal of dermoid and womb inflation agreed for March 2020 but vivid hit. Op cancelled.

This week almost a year later I had surgery. Was supposed to be simple keyhole 90 min op, done and dusted, surgery at 9.30 home at 2pm.  Anyhow I woke up at 3.30 after a much longer surgery.

The original 7 cm dermoid was now 10cm and difficult to remove, right ovary taken with it. Right Fallopian tube didn't look healthy and was removed. Paratubal cysts found too.

On the left side was a 9cm multioculated cyst  and half the left ovary taken with it.

Biopsy of womb taken but smear couldn't be completed due to bleeding.

Everything removed has been sent of for testing. Consultant mentioned ovarian cancer in my drugged up state.

I know non functional cysts like dermoid are mostly not cancerous, but worried about  the large multioculated one. It wasn't present 15 months ago and confused to how I could have 3 different types of ovarian cysts.

I had Ca125 test done back in November 2019. Can't remember the result but was not a concern. Just worried back then I didn't have the other cysts going on.

  • Hi there,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It sounds as if you've been through a lot with all this and I'm sorry to hear you had such a long wait for the surgery. I can understand this must all be unsettling - I hope it's not too long to wait for you to find out more.

Do make a note of any questions you may have so that you can discuss everything with the doctor/specialist when you have the appointment for the results. Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later.

We're always here for support on the forum if you need it at any point.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
