Tumour found next to my oesophagus through MRI

I'm 21, and for the last year I have been trying to get a diagnosis to why my lymph nodes were swollen and it's difficult to swallow - they found clusters of swollen lymph nodes all over my head and neck through an ultrasound, bloods came back normal, they said it was nothing.

Then they had me in for a second ultrasound and found "a mass of tissue" coming up to my thymax, so sent me for an MRI.

They found a tumour that was around 3 or 4 times the size of my oesophagus, and the doctor told me he doesn't know what it is and that it needs to be removed through surgery and tested for cancer.

I also smoked for about 6 years.

I'm so scared - I'm trying so hard to hold it together because I have OCD so I obsess over things - I just keep telling myself it's out of my control.

Has anyone else been through something similar? I haven't had my HPV vaccine, because my mother refused to sign the consent form when we were all getting it in highschool, and I also had trichomaniasis for a whole year - ended up treating it myself after being passed from gynecologist to gynecologist.

  • Welcome to the forum 032c although I'm really sorry about the tumour that's been found.

I'm not sure when you're having the surgery to remove it but I wanted to let you know we're thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed the results of the tests will bring good news.

I know I can't take the worry away but some of our community will have experience of this so you're not alone and I'm sure some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

    Kind regards,
