Waiting on biopsy appointment - lump in neck

Hi,

I noticed a big lump in my neck 2 month ago, I had blood samples, then an ultrasound scan. They said that it is benign, however they found another one on the left side of my neck that looks suspicious. It is very tiny (1.5 cm) and because of my family's history (my mom had a thyroid removed 7 years ago because they found suspicious nodes), I have a biopsy appointment booked on the 22nd. I'm extremely worried and expecting the worse. I'm 34, don't have any symptoms and I already seeing myself in a cancer ward...

I suppose I'm posting because I don't want to keep putting those worries onto my partner...

Just looking to vent and talk about similar experiences.

  • Anyone who had the same experience? I'm freaking out

  • Hey lovley, I hope you are well. Sorry your having a bit of a panic at the moment. I'm going through something fairly similar. I have 3-4 enlarged lymph nodes in my neck, they have been there since about November. I also have some symptoms along side that that are worrying me! I have extreme fatigue, night sweats, chills during the day, my whole body is so itchy. I have had an appointment with ENT who has requested an urgent ultra sound with possible guided biopsy if required. I also panic a lot too. I'm also worried though about them palming me off! I feel so run down and poorly at the moment. My scan is on the 19th x

  • Hi,

Try not to freak out, i know it's hard I was the same as you last August 2020. I'm 21 and i found a lump on the right side of my neck wich I actually nearly over freaked out because uno we all think the worse. I rang my gp and told her about it that it was mobile (movable) and sort of hard/soft and also it was the size of a 2p coin. She told me it could b a lymth node and to ring back in 3 weeks if it hadn't gone. So i rang back because it hadn't gone and she booked me in straight away to see her. She felt around my neck and siad she "bet her money on it being a lipoma (fatty build up of tissue) ". Booked me in for a blood test to check my thyroid  function (I seriously didn't no we had thyroid as I didn't have a clue what it was hahaa) and a ultrasound scan. I went for the scan and blood test and the man who done my scan said it looks like a thyroid nodule and if it was "thyroid cancer then its highly treatable" so at this moment I was *** my self thinking I am too young and my 21st birthday was in 2 months time?!? (I was 20 at the time). Anyway I got a letter threw to see a Ent nurse under the 2 weeks wait rule, had camera up my nose and down my throat, ct of abdomen, pelvis and thorax and also a Mri the day before my 21st birthday, and a biopsy.

Long story short it turned out to b papillary thyroid cancer and the lump was in fact a lympth node.2 months later  Had a operation to remove my whole thyroid and lympth nodes that contained the cancer and some that didn't (the operation lasted 10 hours) with a 4 day stay at hospital and a extremely stiff neck.

Recently had radioactive iodine treatment and had to isolate away from my family for a whole week because of the radiation I gave of-(november 2020)

I'm now doing extremely well apart from the scar that's going fromy ear all the way down to the front of my neck in the letter j, (not so bad because my boyfriends name begins with J haha!!) and apart from still being numb in my right shoulder and half way down my arm and side of my face.

So now it's jus checkup appointments and blood tests to sort out my levothyroxine medication and to make sure there's no redcurrants of the cancer.

So what ever the out come is I want you to no you are not alone and you will get threw it weather it b benign or anything else. If you would like a chat feel free to message me and again sorry for the big story but this is my experience cut down short, from being a young age dealing with this.

    All the best Georgia xxx
